    How the calculation works

    1. Assessable profit = turnover minus allowable expenses.
    2. Development levy = 4% of assessable profit, before capital allowances and losses.
    3. Taxable profit = assessable profit minus capital allowances and losses brought forward.
    4. Company income tax = 30% of taxable profit.

Small companies still have to register for tax and file returns every year, even when they owe nothing. Working out your own salary instead? Use the personal income tax calculator.

    FAQ

    Company tax questions

Which companies pay no company income tax?

Small companies: turnover of ₦100,000,000 or less in the year and fixed assets of less than ₦250,000,000. Companies that provide professional services do not qualify, whatever their size. Small companies also pay no development levy or capital gains tax.

What is the company income tax rate in Nigeria now?

30% of taxable profit for every company that is not a small company. The old 20% rate for medium-sized companies no longer exists.

    What is the development levy?

A 4% charge on assessable profit (profit before capital allowances and losses) for companies that are not small. It replaced the tertiary education tax and several other levies from 1 January 2026.

What is the minimum effective tax rate?

Very large companies, such as those with turnover of ₦50,000,000,000 or more or members of big multinational groups, must pay at least 15% of their profit in tax. If incentives bring their tax below that, they pay a top-up. This calculator flags it but does not work out the top-up.

    What counts as allowable expenses?

Costs wholly and exclusively incurred to earn the income, such as salaries, rent, materials and utilities. Depreciation is not allowed; capital allowances are claimed instead. Fines, penalties and personal spending are not allowed.

    Is this result official?

No. It is an estimate based on the published rates. Your accountant or the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has the final word on your company's tax.
